When plans for The Shard were first announced, Sellar Property Group had never undertaken a development of this scale. The global financial markets were looking increasingly uncertain, sparking serious concerns about the project’s viability. Within the property industry, many doubted that the building would ever get off the the ground.
Despite these daunting obstacles, today The Shard stands as one of the tallest buildings Europe. To encapsulate this visionary spirit, and to make use of a truly unique asset, my idea was to mount a camera at the building’s pinnacle, and stream a live feed of the view to SPG’s homepage.
In order to achieve this I sourced a company specialising in live feed cameras, who agreed to do the installation for free, owing to the prestige of the project. I had got as far as setting up a site visit for the camera company, when at the last minute, a prominent stakeholder voiced opposition to the idea. Designed at Blast.
